Web Designer
We are currently looking for a WEB
DESIGNER for one of our clients in Falls
Church, Virginia. The ideal candidate maintains,
designs and produces web pages and special web
projects, including microsites, blogs, email
templates and e-newsletters; assists with
podcasting and other multimedia projects;
contributes to the overall Web Communications
strategy; assists with print design projects.
This is a full-time temporary position with
the possibility of becoming permanent.
Essential Functions:
Performs maintenance and updates to existing
websites. Creates design prototypes, including
graphic design, site navigation and layout of
content, for special project websites. Creates
design prototypes and templates for email
marketing campaigns and e-newsletters. Builds web
pages and websites, email templates, electronic
newsletters, etc. using technologies that conform
to established web standards. Designs and creates
images for websites, blogs, email templates,
electronic newsletters, etc. Contributes to the
overall Web Communications strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works closely with communications director to
coordinate and post website updates, email
marketing campaigns and e-newsletters. Formats
copy and code for websites, email marketing
campaigns and e-newsletters. Coordinates blast
emails using Lyris email system. Monitors website
search trends and website and email traffic
reports; provides monthly reports to supervisor
and recommends modifications as needed. Keeps
up-to-date on web-design trends and techniques
and suggests improvements for projects and
processes. Coordinates and builds online surveys
and runs reports. Provides support to print
designers as needed. Works well with other
employees, functions as a team player and accepts
constructive suggestions for improving job
performance from supervisors and managers.
Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment in
the responsibilities associated with web design
functions. Performs other reasonably related
duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in graphics design or other
discipline related to the primary
responsibilities. Minimum 3 years of experience
in web design and 5 years of experience in
graphic design; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience with Macromedia Dreamweaver,
Contribute and Flash, HTML, XHTML and CSS.
Knowledge of JavaScript, PHP and dynamic HTML.
Knowledge and demonstrated experience with
cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE,
Firefox, Safari, etc.) Knowledge of current
web-design trends and techniques. Experience with
InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite. Comfortable in
PC and Mac environment. Attention to detail,
customer-service orientation, and creativity in
problem-solving. Experience with podcasting and
other multimedia. Experience with print design.
Thorough understanding of the unique mission and
dynamics of an association publication compared
to a commercial publication, and how effective
nonprofits operate. Excellent planning and
organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal
skills. Self motivated.
